Waveform ECG Use Case

Who?

As a cardiac disease researcher, I want:

  • To be able to maintain digital ECGs for the subjects of my research
  • To analyze these data for abnormalities and use those results in my research analysis

As a PI, I also want:

  • To control who has access to the data my research team collected
  • To collaborate with other researchers on ECG annotation, without needing additional software installed

How?

These needs/desires serve as the basis for the design of the WaveformECG tool and its underlying infrastructure.  Within WaveformECG, users can:

  • Log in with their institutional credentials (e.g., InCommon/CILogon), associating the data with the users and their institutions
  • Upload and store digital ECGs for multiple subjects/studies
  • Visualize ECGs via a web browser, allowing for display of waveforms and annotations without any additional software (see figure below)
  • Submit these data for parallel processing by ECG algorithms
  • Download the results, for further analysis and integration

Waveform ECG Benefits:

  • Maintain data access and control
  • Use existing analysis methods and visualize ECG data without local IT software installation
  • Share the data and analysis results collected with others, for re-use
