ProteomeXchange - Henning Hermjakob

Abstract

ProteomeXchange (http://www.proteomexchange.org) provides a common framework and infrastructure for the cooperation of mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics resources by defining and implementing consistent, harmonized, user-friendly data deposition and exchange procedures among the members.  The receiving repositories PRIDE, PASSEL and MassIVE store the data as initially analyzed by the scientists and provide private access to reviewers and journal editors/reviewers during the manuscript review process. All the submitted datasets get a unique and universal identifier (PXD identifier). The main common access point of the consortium is ProteomeCentral, which provides central, metadata-based search capabilities across the distributed ProteomeXchange infrastructure. Since its inception in 2012, ProteomeXchange has seen a rapid rise in
submissions and downloads, and currently processes approximately four submissions daily, with a total of 1600 datasets so far, and a total download volume of 127 TB in 2014.

Bios

Henning Hermjakob leads the Proteomics Services team at the European Bioinformatics Institute, providing a broad portfolio of resources for systems biology, ranging from protein expression (PRIDE) via molecular interactions (IntAct) and curated pathways (Reactome) to systems biology models (BioModels) at the highest level of abstraction. As founding member and co-chair of the HUPO Proteomics Standards Initiative, member of the executive committee of the British Society for Proteome Research (BSPR), and senior editor of the PROTEOMICS journal, Henning Hermjakob contributes to the standardization of data representation in proteomics.
